My 1983 240D rides and looks great on 195/70R14's. However while rebuilding my $500 85 300D I always wondered if the 205 /70 R 14's were not the original tires--I think they were scrap tires from a junkyard. What tires should I use on a 300D Turbo--195/70 R 14's or 205/70 /R14's?
I am about to buy new tires tomorrow. For some reason I think the 195R 14's are correct for the 85 300D Turbo. |

195/70/14 are the factory tire. 205s are a little wider and a little taller. They'll fit too. Some people think a wider tire gives better performance, some think they look a little better. Either way, they'll fit. Larger size may throw your speedo off a couple MPH though.

Stick with the factory size recommendation: 195-70-14.
They look right and work well on that wheel. Check out the Michelin Rainforce MX4 tires, I've had them on my 85 300D and my 84 300SD and have been very pleased. I think you can expect a treadlife of about 50k miles on your 300D with those tires.... Chris Blanchard 1984 300SD 140.6k |
