Very difficult door lock problem - need an expert to take a look

I thought I'd be able to fix the driver's door lock on my 1992 190E 2.3 with this part that "cdplayer" from this forum kindly retrieved from a salvage lot.

However, when I tried to swap the broken tip (right red arrow), I found that there was additional damage to my lock (left red arrow).

I think the only way I can fix the problem is to remove tumbler parts specific to my key from the broken lock and use them to re-key the salvage tumbler.

Two problems, I cant figure how to get access to the tumbler and I don't have the key for the salvage lock which might be necessary to re-key.

I'd like to know if there is anybody here that knows a good locksmith that could tell me if it is possible to re-key the salvage part.

My other option is $500 to MBZ for the new part :-(

Thanks in advance.

- Blaine

Look around locally for a locksmith that is used to working with wafers - not a big task for the experienced.

I will call around after the new year. The problem I see is that I can't figure out how to access the wafers inside the tumbler. There are three wafers outside that can be removed. The internal ones concern me.

Thanks for the tip.

What about switching your passenger side door lock for your driver side lock?

Costanza - I may just end up doing that since I don't unlock that door very often and I may need to open up the passenger door to figure out how to put the driver's side back together again!
