2001 cl600 theft recovery! i need help!

im new here, and i recently thought i got a good deal on a 01 cl600 with almost 100,000 miles on it. my delima is as follows. it didnt have a trans, and the main ecu/ecm was missing. i got a low milaege trans, and found i had to get a new ecu from mercedes, and i did. i was then told the ecu would have to be programmed at the dealer. i was a nissan tech for many years, so im pretty savy i think, and its was the same with them. however it has many things not working, the air suspension is all the way down, the windows roll up then back down slightly. i think this is just the bcm needing resetting, but i dont know how to do it. but the car will not turn over or do anything when i trty to start it. could the key need reprogramming? im not anywhere near a mercedes dealership, so im begging for help! thanks

I'm new to computer controlled MB's, but here's what I know.

The engine ECU talks to the ignition switch and the key to form an imobilizer circuit. The keys are programmed to the VIN, which has to match the ECU. If you bought a NEW ECU, it would have to be programmed to the car.

When you connect the battery on mine you have to re-synch the windows, sunroof, and the steering. To reset the windows on mine, you put them up and hold the switch in the up position for a few seconds and you'll hear a click, you have to reset each window. Sunroof is simmilar, the steering you go full lock left right left.

If you bought a new ECU, I would think they would have to code it to your car, that's why it won't turn over or start.

Good luck, Chuck

Seth, there are MANY independant shops with scanners that can scan & re-program MB computers.

THERE isn't a single body computer, BUT a system of computers that operate all of the interior functions.

thanks guys. i called several import shops and they all told me mercedes had a monopoly on the computer, and they could nt afford to get it, and i would have to take to mercedes. the dealership i worked at for many years was a mercedes franchise, but gave it up, as the area is not very high in income.the old main tech told me he couldnt do anything with it, take to mercedes! the problem is the dealership is over 100 miles from here. i wanted to do as much as i could to it, before i took to the dealersip, to minimize my cost. also ive been told that the v12 had many many problems, that i should get rid of it quick! is this true?? also what is the best manual to get to work on these cars, as ive seen lots. thanks again!

With almost 40 computers on that car, having a scanner that you can read all of the computers is a requirement!

Buy the MB factory DVD for that chassis...MB part number P-2700-220-215-07

Why not call ...

a couple of the nearest MB dealers and see what they would charge to send out a tech with the scanner to go over the car and tell you what you face?
It won't be cheap but neither will transporting the car to the dealer for the same service and you can be on hand to get your questions answered. (You could also call 1-800-FOR-Mercedes and see what they would do for you.) As part of the service get the dealer to agree to get you any service info on the car which is available. It would be helpful to find out what this car has gone thru in the past.
