Thanks Deanyel. The web site http://www.obdii.com/ has only instructions on how to test for GM and Ford vehicles. Do the same test procedures apply to MB cars?
In this section - http://www.obdii.com/connector.html, under the section titled "What Communications Protocol...", it explains that Euro cars are ISO9141 and that such cars utilize contact pins 4,5,7,15 and 16. They make it sound like all Euro cars are ISO without exception.
