Has anybody on the forum owned a 95 s320 with the inline six engine. Thanking about buying one and getting rid of a ford expedition for my wife. Just wondering if they are good cars I like the body style and my wife hates diesels. Thanks for any info

Would that model have the wiring harness issue, or was that taken care of in a 95?

The S320 is a great car. Don't let the 6 cylinder motor put you off. It moves the car surprisingly well!

The 95 S320 has the 104.994 engine.
The 95 E320 has the 104.992 engine (my car).
My car had the engine wiring harness problem.
I'm pretty sure that all 104 engines have that problem

If you have a chance to check the car, lift the hood and check the underhood wiring under the looms. Look at the electrical insulation of the wires. It'll be obvious if it has the dreaded brittle insulation problem. This problem doesn't hide itself very well. Plus, I would expect the owner to know if the engine wiring harness was replaced. He'd point it out as a selling point.

turn the key on and make sure all the trouble lights come on. I picked up a E320 (94) and the ABS light was pulled behind the dash and the engine light was disabled.

They should all come on for several seconds before cranking the engine.

If the Harness has been replaced, also ask about the Electronic Throttle Actuator. THis item is plagued the same wiring problems and causes the Cruise control to fail.

Make sure you got a good transmission...the 5 speed automatic is specific to the S320,and it cost 3 times to rebuild/replace(4000$ job at a cheap fly by night place), then a 4 speed auto in the s420/s500,because,in most cases it just needs to be replaced, plantetary breaks ...so,its not rebuildable, its replaceable, making a cherry S320 a parts car, overnight.

I have heard that the quality went down starting in 1996 thats why I was thinking of a 95 instead of a 96 or 97. Is the 97 5 speed electronic shifted trans. better than the previous year model trans?

Bah people are so full of it, no difference same cars. MB got rid of a couple of pointless options.

With W140's the later the better, they got more and more sorted out as time went on.

Has the car had the $4000 AC repair yet? If not, pass.
