w126 spark plug installation

Hi, do I need to take off the little silver metal wire connector located on the top of spark plug before putting the spark plug wire on? So far I took out two spark plugs and both all without the wire connector heads. It seems the wire connector heads remain in the wire boots. Thanks

Rick

Best I remember, when I changed my plugs a couple of years ago, 1986 420SEL, the tips were not on the plugs that came out, so I removed them from the new plugs. Everything has been fine, so as far as I can tell it was the right thing to do.
Hope this helps,
Randy
