w123 repair manuals

Hi all,

I hope this isn't too much of a stupid question, but as you can see I'm new in these parts... But there seems to be lots of helpful info here so I'm hoping somebody will be able to help out!

My gf has a 1983 230CE, and she has expressed an interest in learning a bit more about how to maintain it. I'm trying to track down a manual on the subject. Haynes seem to have passed over this particular model, so I've been looking further afield - mostly with the help of links off this forum . There seem to be a few options, and I was wondering if anybody had any opinions on any of them:

- Startekinfo.com have a cd for the 123 models - is this any good? I imagine it only covers the US model - is there much difference between US and UK specs?

- There's also a series called 'Pocket Mechanic' by Peter Russek, of which one covers this model. Any experience here?

- Is there anything I've missed? I've seen reference to something called WIS - what's that?

Thanks very much for any help!

Here's a link to MBUSA.com. Add your vehicle info and select the 123 service manual library CD. It's only $20.

Ah, thanks Chad, that's handy. I guess that's the same manual as on the startekinfo site, but the online orderform makes things easier ... Sadly they don't ship outside the States, but I have a mate in NY who I can persuade to help out.

As you say, it's only $20 so I might as well get it anyway. But I'd still be interested to know what sort of info it contains.

The back of the disc says the following:

Disc 1: 230, 280E, 280CE
Disc 2: 240D, 300D, 300CD, 300TD, 300 D Turbo, 300CD Turbo, 300TD Turbo

I have used this disc for my 300TD Turbo combined with help from the forum and found all the info I needed to do the repairs myself. The discs cover everything in the FSM. The pics are a bit limited, but the other members of the forum help fill in any gaps and offer insights not in any manual.

Hmm, so, not the 230CE? Shame.

I might drop the $20 anyway to see what it's like, but I'm thinking the Russek manual might be a better bet.
