After you replace the spheres, if the rear end still drags its either your leveling valve is incorrectly set or lost its seals. IF its incorrectly placed, readjust the positioning linkage. If that does not help then the valve has failed. Earlier valves had a rebuild kit but not the later ones.

I just replaced the accumulators on my 1994 E320 wagon and noticed that the connecting arms are attached to the torsion bar. The bar on the arm appears to have been "knocked" off level and is pointing downward possibly placing my rear end artificially low. I suspect this happened when the previous owner bottomed out the car. I discovered this by the deep scratches on the differential, mufflers, other underparts and a partially collapsed gas tank (lost about 1 gallon of capacity).
