'96 C220 Front Shock Replace Guide?

I've been told by 2 separate mechanics that my front shocks (struts?) are getting close to needing replacement. The front driver's side does make a squeaky noise when going over a speed bump, etc.

Is there anything special I need to know to change them out? I'm hoping it's a simple matter of unbolting them and installing the new ones. I have a hydraulic jack & jackstands, as well as sockets, a C-clamp, wrenches, etc. Any special tools I'll need?

Finally, I'm looking for a decent brand of shocks to get for the front...not high perfromance...equal to or a little better than stock (which I have never thought was bad at all). Any suggestions? Not Thanks in advance!
