'96 C220 Front Shock Replace Guide?

I've been told by 2 separate mechanics that my front shocks (struts?) are getting close to needing replacement. The front driver's side does make a squeaky noise when going over a speed bump, etc.

Is there anything special I need to know to change them out? I'm hoping it's a simple matter of unbolting them and installing the new ones. I have a hydraulic jack & jackstands, as well as sockets, a C-clamp, wrenches, etc. Any special tools I'll need?

Finally, I'm looking for a decent brand of shocks to get for the front...not high perfromance...equal to or a little better than stock (which I have never thought was bad at all). Any suggestions? Not Thanks in advance!

1. You have front shocks, not struts.
2. Very simple job, 1/2 hr per side & no special tools required.
3. Get these shocks:

You'll be happy with them.

Are you replacing the shocks because of the squeaking noise, or just because you want new shocks? The reason I ask is that I've seen lots of squeaky sway-bar bushings on 202's, and only a very small number of squeaky shocks. It would be a shame to spend the time and money to replace the shocks, only to discover the original problem is still there.
