What climate do you live in and what grade oil are you using? Do you hear valve clatter at idle?

How is the car running? How many miles? I assume you have the proper oil level? Maybe the gauge is broken...

It's the oil pressure sender that's located behind the oil filter, you have to go under the car to get to it. Another symptom of a flaky sender is with the ignition on but the engine off the needle pegs at 3 bar even though the engine isn't running.

The oil pressure sender plugs into the lower left side of engine about 12" from its front. It's part of the Battery aka "B" harness. It has the same degradable insulation as the main harness and should be replaced if original. Faulty wiring can send inaccurate info to guage. MB wants about $100 for the harness. See my posts for how to make your own for about $5.
Bob PS Ask the oil changer where the oil filter is located. Hint: It's at top left rear corner of engine. Use 10w-40 |
