W201 Ft. Struts; STD, HD or Sport???

Need to replace my Ft. Struts on my 87 109D 2.5 and saw 3 choices for replacements. A Standard, an Heavy Duty and a Sport. Anyone know the difference? (gonna do the rears as well) I am hoping to get a much firmer ride and I think that MB had HD for Taxi service...Are they interchangable or would I have to change pads etc. to go from std to the HD or Sport? Thanks! Clip

HD's & Sports are the same except the Sport version is a couple of inches shorter.

Std's will allow for the smoothest ride.

The standard (Comfort) and HD Bilsteins should be interchangeable, although you might find that new shocks will raise your ride height a little bit vs. worn shocks. Seems to be more in the front (maybe because Bilstein seems to spec one shock for all the engines in a model line)

The sports are designed for shorter springs, and will give you less travel than the HDs.

I've driven cars with the standard replacements and the sports - the sports are definitely much firmer than the standard ones. Handling is noticeably improved and highway driving isn't too bad, although I find that around-town driving on bad roads can get pretty rough.

Sorry for the correction.
The Sports will not reduce total travel, that's why they're used with shorter springs, to retain the same amount of travel.
