190e 2.3 harsh AT shifiting harshly into first and second gear

I need to know where to start looking for the problem...the 190e 2.3 seem to be shifting harshly into first and second gear....what should I be looking for ??? of coarse this is a automatic transmission circa 1991.

Try the transmission modulator. Are you loosing AT fluid?

no im not losing fluid, from the data I was looking at it also indicated that is might be the modulator...where is that located ...is it accessible from the botton of the transmission? left or right

its acesible at driver side underneat make sure no vacuum leaks try to used vacuum pump with gauge see if they hold vacuum if good . try put new one in around feet of hose and see it work .

it helps if the vacuum line is hooked up to the shift modulator...what a difference.....what a pain in the rear to get to....

the throttle seems to be stickey other that the regular components is there anything else I should be looking at. also she is a little cold blooded what ....my thought is that the mechanical advance isn't working or does this have vacuum advance...doesn't seem to have any vacuum line going to the distributor...must be mechanical.
