Throttle linkage

On a 420SEL, how is the linkage to the throttle adjusted? Ever since I lubed my linkage, the kickdown is errartic. What I mean is that if you floor it, sometimes it will kick down fully, other times it won't. Then sometimes it will take about five seconds to kick down. I played with the linkages, but there seems to be no adjustment, as they are just spring loaded, and cannot be lengthened or shortened. I would like to get instant kickdown all the time, as I sometimes do already.Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
