Merc E240 gearbox
I've a 1998 Merc E240 with 132,000 miles (212,000km) on the clock, half long disance, half heavy London traffic since new. The gearbox has just gone and needs replacing.
Am I lucky, unlucky or average do you think? And could a 100mph, four hour, high speed dash (ahem, in theory), have caused the problem as it failed at the very end of the journey? Time to sell or to repair and keep do you think? The car has been serviced every 10,000 miles (16,000kms) on the button and has never let me down. Any advice appreciated. Always serviced at a main dealer so I have to say I'm virtually 100 per cent certain it was.

MANY dealers will not service the trans on that car. YOU would have to request that service.

If serviced at your dealer in the past you ought to find a USD $200 -$300 charge on a repair bill.
