Lost Key- 86 560SEL

Okay, this is embarassing . I've managed to lose both keys to my MB. Is there any way to get a replacement key other than the dealership?

Dave

All depends on the dealer. Our local one thinks they are worth double that....

The nearest dealership is 75 miles away, and he demands I go up once with my registration and driver's license, to "prove ownership", and also pay for the key at that time, and then go back 3 days later to pick it up. He also wants 40.00 for the key, which is too high, IMO. But, I guess I don't really have a choice.

Yep, kind of out of options at this point.

Might try Rusty Cullens @ http://***************/content.wws?fname=../why.html.

I've "heard" he will order the keys with an over the phone verification.....

$40 for a new key from the dealer? That is a bargain compared to the newer models, I spent $225 for a new key for my SL500. Even if I went to have a key made for my 94 E320 the cheapest guy I could find to make a key in my area was $30 and it went up from there. Don't sweat the $40, not a big amount when it comes to a Mercedes key. BTW I ordered my new key from the dealer and got a call the very next day it had arrived, talk about great service, I was impressed at how quickly it arrived.
