Strange idle problem only in D not R
Hey Guys,
Well still having the trouble with the rough idle shaking the car when in Drive at a stoplight. I noticed something today though, when it reverse it is smooth as silk, only in the forward gears is it giving the shaking. Doesn't do it in N or P, just in Drive. Any ideas? Thanks Jason |

check the transmission mount, you might find it cracked. replace it (cheap) and you'll probably find that was the problem. had same issue on my 98 e320.

the mount is located at the rear of the tranny and it's easy to change. the vibration may feels like it's from engine or thru out whole car but it's not. what car do you have ? i had changed my engine mounts (expensive) prior to changing the trans mount. i couldn't figure it out so i took it to a local mercedes specialist shop and the guy told me to change the trans mount(i'm a gm tech) and when i took it out it was broken in half, put new one in and smooth as silk again.

I have the 1994 c220 mercedes. I am going to order one now, I bet 100 bucks that is what it is. I was thinking it might be the motor mounts, but today when I noticed reverse was smooth but drive was not I knew it was something like that

i would check it first. you don't want to guess at it and find it's not that. with a pry bar you can pry on trans and see if it's broken. if it is i would start there before checking/replacing eng. mts. 100 bucks sound alot. check other sources. check aftermarket also. alot of them are german made without paying for the mb name.

Thanks again man,
I ordered the mount , it was only like 50 bucks with shipping so if it is not it it is no big loss. |
