as some of you know, reverse gear went on the car. at the time reverse went out, I noticed a puff of smoke under the hood and a "plastic" or "vinyl" type burning smell. I assumed that it might be the second hand modulator valve my indy installed on the transmission sucking transmission fluid into the intake. I ordered a new modulator valve from Phil hoping that would fix the problem. The car seems to go forward ok, but reverse is still out. Question: after the car warms up, smoke comes from an area beneath the exhaust manifold on the driver's side of the car (when the hood is up it blows white smoke after warm up). At first, I thought it might be an exhaust leak, however the smoke continues to pour out after the car is shut off. I know for a fact that the valve cover gaskets had been leaking so I replaced them with proper torque for the cam shaft bolts.
Could this be some oil burning off from the prior cam shaft gasket oil leak? I looked under the car and can't see any oil leaks. It is difficult to see behind the engine (firewall) with a drop light. any ideas??
