Starts in Reverse,But not Neutral...WTF? - PeachParts Mercedes-Benz Forum

Ok, so here the situation. Seems that everything has moved up or down one..
Car WONT start in park or Neutral
STARTS in Reverse
Drives in Neutral.

Do i need to get this fixed? What is the problem? Is it some kind of switch? or tranny problem? ahh...im freaking out here.

Your neutral safety switch likely needs replacement, these are classic symptoms of one that has failed. It is located on the side of the transmission by the shifter linkages. Also, based on your description, your shifter rod might be out of adjustment or bent or something. I'd check that out as well, it may need new bushings (badly).

Will it cause further damage if i continue to drive it like this? What is the typical cost to get shift sensor or neutral lockout replaced?

If your shifter is that sloppy I'd be worried if it would stay in park when I left the car. Make sure to use your parking brake.

Its probably not good to keep driving it like that. The neutral safety switch is not all that expensive. (can get it online for as little as $14), I'd have a dealer inspect your shifter mechanism under the car. Not sure what it would cost to have them replace/repair that.
