W124 heat problem
Hello,
I have a 1987 230te...Euro import... Such an awesome car with the exception of few 'glitches'. Biggest problem is the heat. I don't even know here to start. I don't have any climate control or anything, all manual with two wheels for temperature and a knob for fan speed. If i turn the dials all the way to max heat and teh fan up to any level other than 'off' I get cold air BLIASTING from the center vents, while I get some warm air trickling from the outside vents. The warm air can't even begin to keep up with the amount of air coming out of the center vents so there is essentially no heat in the car. Any ideas are much appreciated!!! |

Maybe no problem
Which center vents? The top center vents only provide A/C or outside air. The ones below it provide heat.

With the non-AC heater, the centre vents only have unheated outside air. Turn them off with the wheel to get more air to the other vents, which blow heated air. The two temperature knobs (One each for driver and passenger) should be set at the desired cabin temperature, and a system of temperature sensors regulates it from there.

I'm off to play with th vents and see if I can get the center ones shut off. It blows cold air on my feet too - does that sound right? |

What I meant is does that vent get shut off as well? I know it's not right to have cold air blasting at my feet. The center vent was broken, it wouldn't close - I had to take it apart and manually close it, I'll have to try to track down a replacement vent from a wrecker... It's vastly improved now with the center vent forced shut, however it does still blow cold air on my feet and the heat from the side vents seems 'diluted' now for lack of a better word. So for clarity there should be no heat from the center vents, only from the outside vents. The center vent should be opened for fresh cool/cold air when desired. (no AC) One step closer now, thanks! |
