CEL on 1995 E320

Hello.
CEL came on today, pushed the built in button it blinked 26 times.
The codes that i have says (Upshift delay faulty).
Can someone tell what that means?
I also checked pin #8 and #14 whith the code reader i built my self and no faults. The car has the 16 pin connector and 149k mi.
I replaced the engine wire harness last Fall that i bought from Fastlane from Phil.
Any advise is appreciated.
thanks.

Common fault involving the shift delay when engine i cold. It is there to help warm up the Cat fast from a cold start. Behind the booster is the SOV valve that operates the element down at the trans that holds the shift in the lower gear.
You can pull a vac on that green vac line going to the trans w/hand vac. pump and see if it holds vac. Also see if that or the other vac lines are broken/cracked/leaking...
There is another test, but try that first.

Thanks for the reply Dalton.
I replaced the vac lines in the front to rubber lines 2yrs. ago. I'll look at the ones behind the booster or should i just replace them to rubber. I'll post the results.

Thanks

Dalton I tested the green hose behind the booster looks ok as far as i can look at it, very tight space but it didn't hold vacum. I searched for similer threads and your previous posts and hooked both lines and drove around the block and it didn't delay. There is vacum from engine. I'll have to BB it for now.
Before I call the dealer, any idea how much the cost will be?
If i decide to fix it, you can't even stick your hand in there.
My other question is I read on previous threads to drive in lower gear until the engine warms up, until what temp. for the engine to reach?

Thanks

Just the first 1/4 mile if it is winter...

If you don't want to BB it, just unplug the SOV electrical connector until you get the element actuator replaced. PIA job...some guys just put up with the code and erase it once in a while ..If you let the car warm up for a few min, the code won't come on anyway b/c it is past the ECU mapping demand.. ....

Had this problem as well, dealer is charging $775 parts and labor. I was able to get find a Mercedes Specialist which offered to do it for $400 parts and labor.

From my understanding, the shift delay works by extending the bowden cable which results in higher shift points. The vacuum part of it just mechanically moves the cable position. So if the green line is not holding a vacuum then it is either the line or a rubber gasket or rubber diaphragm in the shift delay mechanism. It should be much like the vacuum pods in the heat/AC system. At worst, replacing the green line and the shift delay should fix it.
I just don't see how to get at that shift delay mechanism - there is no way to get your hand in there and no room to manuever a tool.
Does anyone have the shop manual technique for replacing that part?
