1997 600 sl in limp home mode
i was driving at the beach in the sand. when i got to the paved street i floored the car and wouldnt go any where. i stopped and noticed a tire in the rear that was low on air. i got to a gas station and put some air that was only able to last 30 minutes. still the car is in limp mode and has no power. ive had it for a year and never have had a problem with it. any idea what im looking at or where to start diagnosing my car. some guy that works with mercedes took a look at it and said it was the wire harness. he needed 2100 for the harness and 1400 in labor just to start. im not sure thats what the problem is. i need some help can anyone help me with this problem. email me or call me my no is 9564662147. any advice would be apreciated. thank you

I don't think '97 models were affected by the wiring harness problem. It was mainly '93-'95 Mercedes. Have a look for yourself--is it cracking or anything?
I would try another independent shop. -GH

If the tire that is leaking air fast is one of the drive wheels, the leaking air would decrease the cirumference of the outside diamter of the tire+wheel. Maybe the fact the the two drive wheels are would thus have to be turning at different rates is enough to trigger the ABS/EPS sensor and throw the car into limp home mode?
