New Benz questions - 420SEL

Greetings!

I usually hang out in the diesel section since I currenlty have an SDL but I am thinking of buying a 420SEL in the next week or so. Is there anything specifically about these cars that I should look for? The obvious stuff (Leaks, paint issues, functioning) I can find, but is there anything in particular I should know? The car is purported to have 111k on it which seems reasonable.

Sorry if this has been covered. If you point me to the search that brings back the pertinent information that would be great too.

Thanks,

Tom

what year, the last years 85 -86 - were great cars, the absolute best MB's in my opinion, if cared for, they last forever.

The 89-91 had a nicer interior.

I'd look for a 560SEL, they are nicer, with self leveling suspension, heated seats (4), burlwood trim, and the reclining back seat. Mileage is about the same.

Also, the 560 commanded quite a premium when new, so it's reasonable to expect the person who bought the 560 to have taken better care of it. While he may not still own the car, the better care initially may still make for the better car used.

For 1991,
MSRP 420SEL: 63,600
MSRP 560SEL: 75,100

Jim

It is an 87.

So far I have seen pictures, but I will not see the car until next weekend.

He has told me that the passenger door has a "$300 dent" in it. He also indicated that the bumpers were in need or repainting.

The car looks immaculate in the pictures though. He is an older guy so he may not be too swift with the digital age (hence the lack of real pictures).

I should be able to get it for $3k with 111k on it.
