Exclamation Urgent Help In Michigan!!!!

Hello All,

My daughter's (1989 560SEL) car has developed an issue while she is on a road trip. She is about 170 miles from her destination and I'm hoping she'll make it. Once she arrives she'll be there for 3 weeks and wont need car UNTIL her return trip.

Can any reccomend a good shop in or near Lake City, MI???

This really ticks me off....I spent over $500.00 at the dealership making sure the car was "good to go" and was told it was.

I guess their crystal ball was on the fritz. Of course they probably used an OBDII crystal ball and everyone knows they won't work on twenty year old cars.

The nearest dealership is at this site:
http://www.traversecity.mercedescenter.com/mbcenter/b/index.jhtml

Maybe they cut you a break since last dealer said it was good to go.

Also try

Import Automotive
Toll Free 800 310 7810

What went wrong? What sort of "issues"? Maybe you don't need a shop.

I am researching, it will take time.
The area is not good for MB service.

Maybe the exhaust hangers went out and part of the exhaust the pipe is hanging on the axil. When the exhaust is cool, grab the end tail pipe and see if it moves about with a shake. Another possibility is a heat shield came loose and is resting on the drive shaft.

Finally, and I mean no offense by it, but check to see if she has not been driving with the parking brake on; although you would probably smell that one for a while.

Good luck with this.

With a complaint like that, tell her to pull into any Indy Repair shop and have them put it up on a lift for a look ...That will at least get an observation.
I don't think an MB Shop is needed just for a diagnosis...and maybe not even for the remedy.

She's a Kansas City kid, best not worry too much. They are a tough breed...

I wish my Dad would buy me a 560SEL and service it for me I can't get him to ride in my old MB's

It will all work out, just have some Indy take a look. When we run 20 year old cars, they break down, and always at the wrong time. It's just the law...

Thanks all!!

I know its not the exhaust hangers. I had them all replaced. I've contacted the Mecedes-Benz club for that region. I going to try and see if someone can help me out. I have 3 weeks to get this done then she drive home. What bothers me is I have this car (that's in amazing condition) serviced regularly at the dealership. THEY SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS OR AT LEAST SEEN IT COMING!!!

Azinn and others that have provided REAL feedback.....thanks for helping and understanding. It's a bit stressful knowing that your daughter could be stranded.

You would have gotten a much better responce without this :

>

This Forum has some of the best Benz Technical people on the Net who take offense to people slamming Techs before they have any idea or knowledge of what they are talking about.
..and we do this for FREEEEEEEEEEEE.

...so, while unjustly slamming Techs around in your post, you certainly are not living in 'Reality' if you expect one of them to gracefully come to your assistance .

I agree. I have three daughters and knowing they could be stranded out in the middle of nowhere is very stressful.

You should be able to vent a little w/o everyone crawling up our ass.

BTW, even the best maintained cars can developed sudden and unexpected problems. The mechanics may have acted in good faith and done everything right and still not find out what the problem is/was.
