Mercedes Sealant

Other than the dealer, does anyone know where I can get the orange MB sealant, part # 002 989 00 20 10? The shop manual specifies its use on the front covers and end covers of the 119 engine. I paid about $55 at the dealer about 7 years ago, so I suspect it's even more now. I've used it on other cars and I have found that it works very well. Thanks.

Sealant

The "002" in the part number tells us that it's an "Industry Part".probably
repackaged for Mercedes.
I'd be willing to bet that if you call Loctite/Permatex 's Technical Advice line
on Monday: They will either be "the Manufacturer"...or have a product that's
superior.[especially since Henkel owns both Loctite and Permatex]

And your Pocketbook/Wallet will thank You!

Thanks. I'll check it out. Is Henkel a German company?

Are they related to Heinkel?

My opinion is that the MB sealant works well not because it's so great, but that the sealing surfaces on MB's are so well machined and fit so well.
I have used Permatex sealers in various areas of my MB, and they performed great. But you couldn't get the valve covers or intake manifold on a Chevy smallblock to seal for very long with ANY sealant!

Similar issue; the MB secret million $$$ sunroof grease. I discovered that Vasoline seems to work every bit as well for my SE.

Good point. The Germans do have a tendency to overkill the engineering side; but, I guess that's a good thing.
