Messed up Door Panel 89' 300 SE
Hey guys I'm new here..
okay so i feel like a dumbass already about this. but i was backing up like enough so i could get the lawn mower out of my garage.. well my door caught on the wheel of the other car in the driveway and I didn't see it because I was looking backward and I kept backing up to catch a glimpse of the door being hyperextended backwards... The door still works. Like the hinge's and everything work fine but the door will not shut now because there's a metal peice rubbing and stopping the door from shutting.. The pictures below should help explain what i'm saying a little better... Car is a 1989 Mercedes 300 SE I need to know the best way to go about fixing this because being a college student, I really dont have the money to have the car fixed.. My idea... Take Door off If need be. take door Panel apart. Beat metal back into place slowly with rubber mallet.. Things I need help with.. How to remove the door.. If Need be How to remove door panel Electrical stuff and diagrams. Door Completely open What it looks like when you try to close the door Middle Hing is somewhat flexed but still works alright Door will not close any more than that Close-up of door damage Another close up of the door damage |

okay.. so far i've made some progress and I'm not sure if the rest is beyond my scope of abilities but what I did so far really wasnt all that hard and made things better at least..
What i've done.. Pushed door as much as I could push it to bring the bent metal outside the car/Fender area Jacked the door up so that it was inline with the car. Got the door to open and close. Well it's fully shut now but only opens to aboetal bent ut a 30* angle What I need some advice on. How to fix the Dents like the impressed part at the front of the door. How to get the metal bent back so that it sits flush with the rest of the door. Can I do this work or some of it at least and then maybe have a body shop do the rest of it. At least my bill would be lower so hopefully I can afford it. Attached Pictures should help Bottem b/w front and back door isn't exactly sitting flush Side view of the Damage and repair process so far Close up of the bent metal and dents |

As long as the door is now functional, I suggest that you leave it alone until you can afford a replacement door panel. You should be able find a used one for a resonable price. Anything more that you do to this door is just going to cause more bending and the inevitable transformation into a Bondo-bucket.

Ya I was kinda thinking that as well.
I mean the door is shut and everything but it doesn't open more than like a foot. Not even enough for me to use it. Where would I go about finding a door panel ? and how much do you think this is going to cost to fix ? |
