Hi all. I'm currently searching for a used W140, and have very particular expectations. I'd like to find a pre-facelifted (preferably the low-production 400SE) example in tektite grey with Java leather. I'm not so much focused on the tektite, I just need one with Java leather! It must also include ASR, and heated seats. Oh, and the Betta cant be butchered either. I think I would find more success in my search if I knew the actual production codes for these options. Does anyone have a list of these codes? (Or a vehicle that fits the description LOL) If you can help me, I would sincerely appreciate it. Thanks!

Very untrue actually. I've seen more than my fair share of these examples. Maybe Mercedes didn't call the peanut butter colored interior Java yet, but they do exist. I've been bitten by the S-class bug and now that I'm in a place to afford the exorbitant costs of W140 parts,I look forward to rebuilding and owning one. I was almost suckered into purchasing a "mint" 2000 S500 that turned out to be a gremlin. I have the patience to wait until I find what I want, It would just be SO much easier with the break-down for the option codes on the front radiator support!

No, entirely true. If you want the production codes for specific 92 to 94 S-class paint and interior colors you need to use the proper names from that era. Tectite gray and java are from a different era. The "peanut butter" color from that era was called saddle, which would have a different production number from Java, because it is a different color. Same issue for Tectite Gray.

By the way I think you're looking at a long shot there. It's gotten to the point that finding a nice car in any color is a bit difficult. There just seems to be a lot of unmaintained cars out there.

I don't mind putting a rare one back together. I can do all of the work myself, and a good friend has access to some of the older specialty Mercedes tools. If I do however run up on a great one that doesn't match my wants, I'll definitely settle and save my dough! Honestly, I'd be happy with a low mileage example in a dark color with black interior. Do you think thats asking for too much?

No, if you're a bit flexible on color and willing to fix some flaws the market opens up quite a bit, especially with a wider search. Where are you?

I'm in Baltimore. I recently purchased a home in VA, and I'll be moving at the end of August. I have two W210s: a 96 e320 that, besides the spring perches, has been quite trouble free, and a 97 e320 that is a POS!
