Need help with part # - 1995 E320 heater box

Hi All,
I tackled the dreaded evaporator replacement over the weekend using Boxford Benz's wonderful step by step guide. I used my laptop with a wireless connection in the car while going through the myriad of steps. Didn't hit a snag until I started to dissassemble the heater box. There's this flexible connector on the right footwell flap that I guess many others before me have broken. My dealer doesn't show the part number and I need to get the part before I can reinstall everything. Can anyone help with the number? I found a picture of it on the Russian MB parts site. On the attachment it is number 17. It shows the connector attached to the lever. Thanks, Bob

Four (4) Choices

(Next time scroll down further the parts numbers are down there)

Also, # 17 is all the parts referenced by (included in) that little parts
area delineated by the inclusive line number 17.So they will probably try
to sell you all the parts in that little group.

Hey,if I can look it up on the Russian WIS...those slackards @ the Stealership
can TOO!('Need to slap them with one of those Huge Salmon)

AND if they try to Obfuscate with "How do we know what system you have"
Give them your VIN number and MAKE them call Mercedes Technical.

"Grumble,grumble"...They charge us an arm and a leg for the parts...and then
they want to play games before and after?

Call Phil at Fastlane ("Buy Parts" at the top of the page) and see if he can
break out an individual part number for that clip.If he can't Roy might.

I also broke this coupling when I did my evaporator a few months ago. The dealer said that I would have to buy the entire evaporator housing. I was able to fabricate a small universal joint that has worked great. Hopefully you can get the proper part with the part number and save the hassle of fabricating something.

That part has NEVER been available from MBUSA, don't blame them! Blame Daimler OR Behr if blame is necessary. However they didn't break that part.

Most people at MB dealers are NOT incompetent!

That part can be duplicated by attaching several small zip ties together.

Thank you all for your advice. I did have the numbers off the Russian website but wasn't sure if they were the correct ones. I have since had that confirmed by the moderator of one of the other Benz forums. I'll check with my dealer today to see if it is available, but if not, I think I'll try the fabrication method using the zip ties. I can see how that would work equally well. Bob

Part

Y'all will have to bear with me from time to time...The Mercedes Franchisee in
town is not of the highest caliber...Long ,Long history for many MB owners.
(However,we have any number of Excellent Independents...
AND the Franchisee is the reason why we can support so many good Indies)
All that aside...

I called Brumos (I know from experience they will find the part you want)in Jacksonville,Florida
with one of the 4 parts numbers listed on
the RU site (Since I had to guess which one applies to Bob J's '95 E320...I
picked #000 830 14 33)
Jamie, in parts, told me that it would take 10 days to two weeks because the
part is in Germany (and the dealer in Victoria should be able to order it for him).

AND MB Doc ...You're right, almost all the Employees,at different MB franchises
I've dealt with are helpful and competent.

That part number is for a NON auto climate control car & is also listed on the FREE MB EPC as well for euro applications.

That system uses levers & cables instead of vacuum controled air ducts.

The part number turns out to be 000 830 21 33 and is available from Germany according to my dealer. Amazing that they can look up the part from a number, but not from their system. I've decided to go with the fabrication method using the zip ties and some epoxy as insurance because I need to get the car back on the road.

M.B. Doc - did you use any of the old parts with the zip ties? I'm assuming that I'll need to keep the sleeve that screws into the shaft. Mine broke at the end of the sleeve. I figured that I could drill a small hole in the end of the sleeve and also one in the other piece and tie the 2 together with a zip tie. Or is it better to remove the bulk of the existing flex joint and just tie the sleeve to the piece that slides into the flap?

Bob
