Question Air Filter Chnage on 1994 E320

Hello all,

What is the recommended (by the community, not MB) air filter for 1994 E320? Also, any guidelines on changing it? I have not yet looked under the hood but I know it must be dirty. I have not changed it in a while.

Also, where is the cabin air filter? Is that same as the air filter?

Another question is do I need to check the fuel filter as well? Where is that located and how do I tell if it needs a change?

Thank you for helping a newbie.

Regards,
Kalyan

I always prefer OE filters, but any good German brand will work. Fastlane has them all availible.

ok ..I checked under the hood .. it was last changed in 2004 Jan at 95K miles. My current reading is 126K. Time to change .. thats for sure but what is the recommended period for changing? 30K miles? In India it was 30K KMs for Hyundai.

Thanks,
Kalyan

I do mine once a year since they are cheap. Have a vacuum handy so you can clean out the housing.

The book probably says every 25k-30k.

Cabin filter is 2 interlocking pieces sold as one. Lower one slides out first. They slide out of heater box towards driver's side. But sometimes it's easier to remove top of heater box.

Fuel filter is under car, in front of right rear wheel.

For the filters, it all depends on the local driving conditions. If your down a country lane plowing up dust and weeds, it might be good to change it every other oil oil change. In addition, dirty filters increase air flow resistance = lower gas mileage. If you see your mileage dropping a bit, might be worth considering a change if its been a few miles since it was changed.

As for the cabin air filter. I did not have a replacement when I worked on my blower last winter. It was full of dirt and debris. Rather than leave it out, I sued a hose to throughly wash it out. I have since purchased a new cabin filter but due to the PITA it is to get down to it, I have held off until I work on the Blower motor brushes.

Clogged cabin filters are one of the main causes for blower regulator failure.
They need cooling air for the heat sink.....

That's the advantage of removing the top cover. It's then easy to remove the squirrel cages and lube them with tranny fluid. Clean the elec connecters and add a little electric grease.

While your in there, pull out all the plastic surround, remove, open and re-lube the wiper assembly. You'll be surprised at how fast the wiper moves after a good cleaning & lube. At worst you'll know how easy, yet time consuming it is to R&R the assembly.
