97 S500 key uncoding from DAS
Hello,
I purchased my 1997 (10/96) S500 from an individual, it came with only one key (remote flip type). I've ordered two extra keys (with the transponder) from the dealer. I want ONLY these three keys to be able to start the car. When I called dealer, the tech on the phone said: "It's not a problem. Bring all your keys and they'll kick-out the other keys..." I've arranged an appointment. Dealer took my car in the service area, for about 20 min. I was told that, for my specific year they can't do this...??? Q1: Is the dealer correct (there is no way to remove certain key(s) from DAS)? Q2: Can I do this my self - with-out a Mercedes equipment (handheld programmer, etc.)? Q3: Can somebody give me step by step instruction, that I can print out and give to the dealer technician? I may be paranoid, but I don't trust the previous owner... Thank you in advance for your time and info. M#. |

Any IR transmitter can be blocked from operation on that DAS X system.
Does require a MB laptop to block that transmitter.

Sorry,
I should have been more specific. I'm not sure if I got it right. Is there a transponder in the IR part of the key that communicates with DAS in the car (and allows the car to start)? I'm not worry about the IR transponder to open or lock the doors (there is a manual lock on the driver door anyways). Is there a way to disable the transponder in the key itself (making the car crank but never actually start)? When I was ordering the replacement keys in the dealership, they've made a mistake first time around. The keys would open the doors, trunk, would turn in the ignition cylinder, but it would only crank and crank but engine would never run. A different technician recommended a 'mickey mouse' key (has two 'ears' - looks like a mickey mouse, I guess..) These keys arrived in couple days and the car started right away with both. These keys are not flip type keys. (The transponder must be in one of the 'ears'.) My hope and question is: Is there a way to disable the transponder(s) in the other key(s) I don't physically have? The car should then only crank, but not start, if the PO comes back with his key. Thank you for your time and explanation. M#. |

The answer is still YES, with a DAS lap that transponder & IR signal can be blocked.

OK,
Before I go to the dealer again, one more question: Is there a way to only disable the key(s) I do NOT physically have? Thank you in advance. M#. |

Yes, they can either temporary block any of the 8 key tracks. OR permanently block them as well.
When any key is in the ignition, the technician can see the track number thur the DAS computer on his scanner. By looking at all of the keys you now have the rest can be temporary blocked OR permanently blocked.
