I plan on adding a can of BG44K to my 92 300E w124. It uses a quart of oil between oil changes at every 5-6k miles. I use 93 octane gas 95% of the time. A local Volvo shop uses this product in all their cars. It should help clean the head and valves if it works as advertised. I've never used additives before this. Is there a chance that this additive may change the current oil consumption??

It's a great product, and I've seen it do some amazing things, but it's a fuel injection cleaner and therefore not very likely to affect oil consumption. But it does do a good job keeping fuel systems clean, and a fair job of cleaning ones that have goten too dirty. And that's more than I can say for most similar products out there.

BG has a whole line of additives, including others that may help with your problem, I'd consult your local rep to see what would work best.

Not unless youre dumping the 44k into your oil. put it in your gas tank.

If you are using only a quart every 4-5K, then you have a pretty solid engine, certainly nothing to concern yourself with. Chances are it's just valve seals oozing a bit. My M103 used more than that when brand new.

As stated, the BG fuel cleaner should have limited effect on oil usage; unless the piston oil rings are gooed up and it clears that up. But only using the small amount of oil you stated, it's very unlikely the oil rings are the culprit.

The guys over on the Corvette forum like the BG injector cleaner, but they RAVE about Chevron Techron. So, this says to me either is good for cleaning out the fuel system. I buy the Techron at Costco by the 6-pack, and use it in all my cars every 6 months or so.

No need to change oil if you are just addding Techron it to your fuel.
I assume same applies for BG.

Now, if you are going hard-core, and add something like SeaFoam to the oil, or suck it into the intake, then you should definitely change the oil afterwards.

This is because BG has a nice catalog of "prizes" and mechanics earn credit toward obtaining these items by saving the tokens put in every can of BG products. A bit of marketing genius and isn't it just "special" that so many mechanics recommend these potions?

Technicians like BG44K because it works. Its claimed to be about 10x stronger than those cheap ones you see out there.

We use it at my shop....Because it works. I use it on all my cars, because it works. I don't recommend it to ALL my customers, but definately to the ones that have some running troubles.

I've seen the results of its use in an engine with carboned up combustion chambers. Looked inside with a boroscope before, then after use. "nice and clean now".

Of course we did the full cleaning service, also using the spray cleaner that goes into the throttlebody, like BG recommends. then you can just add to tank about every 3 months to keep things clean.

Techron is my #2 choice. I did a lot of research on it (as I did with BG products), and it seems to be the best you can just go buy and drop into your tank. BG stuff is sold thru repair shops, and usually with the full service.

BG products are some of the best. I have a good relationship with our BG distributor and he knows his products and they always perform as he says they will. I don't even collect the chips, I give them to our oil change guy. Very few fixes in a can live up to the hype but BG is the real deal. Their MOA has all but elliminated camshaft wear in our customer's 116,117 engines. 44K is a great fuel system cleaner. Their engine flush works wonders on sludged 112, 113 engines. I even run their wet clutch additive in my motorcycle and noticed an improved shift to an already smooth shifting bike. Bottom line, if it has BG on the can, it is worth the money.
