'83 280TE woes.....

Hi All - I'm new to Benz and this forum. Live in Australia and have acquired an 83 280TE. I have a couple of questions and would be grateful for any help and advice:
1 - Car starts OK from cold, idles at 1000rpm, but the idle speed increases as the motor warms up - ending up around 1700rpm with the transmission in "N" when fully warm. Is this a case of adjusting the idle screw ? or is there more it? (I suspect there may be...)
2 -In the (long) process of trying to cure oil leaks I have replaced a leaking power steering hose - but have now found the power steering pump to be leaking from the "back plate?" From what I can see, after taking the (seized) air/smog pump off - there seems to be a recess on the back of the pump, oil is leaking from there. Is this a simple fix? or do I need a rebuilt pump?
Anyone had experience of this?
Thank you

Carl

That car has a thermostatic air valve. Most likely the thermostat part of that valve isn't shutting off the air correctly.

The rear cover of the p/s pump has an o-ring. replacement of that o-ring should fix the leak.
