Mercedes clk 320 auto cuts out

Hi all, my 320 clk has started to cut out for no apparent reason as im driving, when it cuts out it will turn over but you cant hear the fuel pump and it wont start as if there's no fuel in it, when i have left it for about half an hour it will start and drive fine for a few miles or sometimes days, Sometimes before this happens it does strange things like open the boot, or the sunroof or turn the radio on. Also it sits on my drive and the alarm will set itself off hours after iv parked it there. Iv never had any problems with it in the past but i think this is making up for it now. Please help. Cheers Mick

Very common problem on that V6 engine is the crank position sensor.

clk 320 cutting out

Thanks for reply, its pointing to the sensor so i will give it a go, nothing else to lose , i have tried everything else i can think of, ie: electrical connections , fuses , plugs , new petrol , but still cant understand why other electrical things are happening like boot & sunroof opening , alarm going off etc , and car will run fine for days then suddenly cut out when i need it the most, final straw was last week when i got brought back home on back of 3 lettered breakdown recovery truck , mechanic insisted it was my electronic key, and recommended me someone he knew who would fix it on the cheap ( backhander or what) still i suppose it was worth the £75 i pay each year to get my pride & joy back to my home. Anyway i love my car even if it is sitting on my drive it still looks better than my neighbours car. many thanks Mick.

Just an outside chance that the voltage regulator is going south and the battery is not getting fully charged or battery could be getting weak. My car went crazy off and on too and the battery was dieing from bad intermittent voltage regulator.
