w124 no instrument lights on dash
or other interior lights such as window switches, light switches temperature wheel, etc. All the gages are working and I've removed and checked
all fuses and they are good. I am also getting the bulb out indicator when the brakes are applied, or when the parking lamps and/or headlamps, or brake pedal is pressed. But all bulbs are working and correct voltage also. Are the problems related? What should I check next. Regards,

Try rotating your dash lite dimmer switch back and forth a number of times. Are you SURE all your lights are on? License plate light? Third brake lite (CHMSL)? Jim

what about on the shift indicator, on the earlier models, this was the only interior light not affected by the rheostat, if its on you should have a problem like jim suggested. The tail lamp issues may be unrelated.

Bill, remove the 3 brake lamps and check for flat spots on the base. If the lamps are flat-spotted replace with new 21w lamps.

This has happened to me before, the rheostat controls all interior lights as well as the dash ('89 300E). You'll need to pull the instrument cluster out if it is this, main dealers sell the tool for doing this. Having pulled it out you'll probably find the joint on the reverse of the rheostat needs re-soldering.

Excellent!
Same thing on my 90 300TE. Dash and instrument lights dead. Had to go to the owners manual to find out where the dimmer was...never had to use it. The pullers are Harbor Freight dent pullers that I paid maybe 3 dollars for. Spent about 5 minutes to hammer one of them straight, and to make the bend more aggressive, and then trim the excess. This dash had probably never been removed...it was a tough cookie to work out of there. 10 seconds of soldering...done. Thanks so much guys
