KBB trade-in is $650 for good condition LX 105K miles. Your best bet will probably be to put in a used engine (weekend job if you have a garage. Drop the coverage on the car, and you'll probably see payback within a year (or two).
You need to train your girlfriend that she can't get rid of her old car so easily.
There were so many of those made you should be able to find one in Windeseile.

wow that was some reading...I drove thru 3 or 4 feet of water in my 300E (was driving the SEC but got out and put her in the garage) yesterday as we are getting some heavy flooding rain in sfla, and now she is acting up like maybe electric somethings got wet, parked her last nite, and had prayer session that it would go away. I can't believe the Taurus made it that far. Pick up a old E class for almost nothing and it will run circles against any Ford. You are a good man helping her tear down that car-hope it all works out and she gets a MB....
