SRS light intermittently.....

I have a '91 300d that while taking a trip today.....the SRS light came on several times but went out after a few seconds. What does the dealer do to fix the issue......does the system need to checked by a shop or is there something I can do?
thanks for reading

You can build the code reader and read the codes on pin 6 of the diagnostic connector. Try a search - lots of info.

Voltage supply is the only reason that the light can go back OFF w/o connecting scanner on that model.

MBDoc is absolutely right.. I have seen this on many of my cars, and it is always one of two things:

Overvoltage protection relay
-OR-
Battery

The OVP relay is a known cause of this problem, and it has a 10A GM-style fuse in the top of it.

Battery getting old is also a common cause.

I used to troubleshoot these issues, but now here's what I do. For a total cost of $100-150 (depending on the battery), I buy a brand new OVP and battery.

Unless your OVP or battery are less than a couple of years old, just buy new and you'll fix the problem forever. There is no point in trying to spend $$$ troubleshooting this type of issues when 90% of the problems are solved by spending the $100-150.

This recently happened to me as well, except my SRS light came on and hasn't turned off.

I have a 2003 CLK500, which hasn't been in an accident (knock on wood) and my SRS light came on the other day - it happened right after I filled up gas (I dunno if that matters at all). The battery was replaced in Oct-2007, so I don't think it could be the battery. You think it's likely the OVP or should I just take it to the shop to have them look at it? Would something like this be covered under the extended warranty?
