High Engine Temp

I have a 1986 560SEC. Is it normal for the engine temp to remain at 110C in stop and go traffic and when climbing hills. My alternetor fan seems to be coming on when the temp goes to 110c.

yes i beleive so. At least it is on the diesel models. Also, your fan should be coming on when you turn on your a/c unit, if its not then you may have a bad pressure switch located on your drier. A few things to check though: make sure your clutch on your main fan isn't too loose( going bad), have you flushed out your radiator recently? what concentration of anti freeze to water do you have? does your thermostat seem to be operating correctly? What is your temp when driving constantly? mine is about 85 C with the a/c on while driving on the interstate, but with the a/c on i have seen it crawl to 110, it does make me nervous though. hope this helps
