did you use the "special tool" to remove the silver end of the ignition wire before removing the plugs?

I found that a tool used for removing valve stem seals works really well for this. It looks like a long, cheap pair of pliers with a half a tube on each jaw. it was cheaper than a new set of wires, and was pretty cheap as it was.

Maybe my car just has easy wires because I have changed spark plugs three times and never needed a special tool to do it except a range of different extensions.
