722.6 transmission issue

Benz: 1997 C230 , 722.6 transmission. 140k miles, tranny fluid changed at 70K

Issue: Intermittently.. while I am stopped, brake on, and the car is in Drive .. there will be a "lurch".. small nudge from the transmission like it wants to go. The rpms drop slightly...

I've gone to placing the transmission selector in neutral while stopped > and it still displays this nudge behaviour..

Torque converter?... the transmission shifts just fine in normal driving mode.. it just has this problem while stopped at a light/stop sign/heavy stop/go traffic...

ideas???

See if there is a difference if you drive it in the W or S mode (the switch on the shifter)

idle issue w/ w202

that is most likely your air pump doing a "self test" my 97 c230 ( c2durty) does it only at stop lights where you'd think it is gonna "die" but it never has for the last 20k, i bet it revs down to like 400rpm for a few seconds and then right back up to 750 rpms. On a nice day with windows open you can hear the air pump clicking from the front of the car. hope this helps.

I switched from the "S" mode to the "W" mode and the "hiccup" is still there.

500selproud : it acts exactly as you say .. rpms drop from normal to around 400 > and then come back up..

it's like the car hiccups.. total random... only while stopped...

do you think it's poss that one of the spark plugs hiccups[plug, wire or coil]and this then puts more torque on the trans?it's only a 4 banger and one plug could make that difference.

This is correct. This is what it is doing. It will do it only once in a drive cycle right? And it will do it only at a stop, foot on the brake, after the car has warmed up for about 5 minutes driving right?

mpolli: correct .. only while stopped car is warm..

so > what is the fix?? new air pump?? $$$$

is there a particular sub-system of the air pump that is faulty?

what is the effect/cost/danger if I just live with it.. ignore it and put up with the malfunction. ??

I took it in yestrday for emissions inspection> and it passed > so whatever it is doing > it is not messing up it's emissions function.

advise>??
