My E240 2004 (w211) shakes when the gear lever is at 'D'. The vibration is lesser in 'R' and almost none in 'N' or parking.

I suspect tranmission mount. any ideas????

+2 - Also a classic time of year when nights get colder and rubber parts get harder.

You can measure your motor mounts to see if they are collapsed or not. They are 17mm when new, 13mm = collapsed. Use a 12 or 13mm socket whose OD is 17mm as a feeler gauge.
