Rag top wont go down

I have a 1994 E320 convertible. When I go to put the top down, the windows all go down as programed but the top will not go down at all. I unlatch the two latches and push the roof up as per the manual but the roof will not go any further. Any Ideas? Anyone have a similar problem?
Cheers, Elliot
PS I'm new to this forum. Thanks in advance.

Does the light on the switch come on OR does it blink?

Have you checked the hydraulic fluid reservoir on the pump for correct level?

The light stays on. I'll check the hydraulic fluid level as soon as I find the reservoir.

I found the reservoir. It is to the right of the spare tire. The fluid level shows at minimum. According to the local MB dealership it takes a special hydraulic fluid available at the MB parts department. Figures. Thanks for the help.

The system should work even with the level at the minimum but you might as well top it up. Do any of the normal steps take place or does the tonneau not even raise? You fluid went somewhere but I would think if the tonneau cylinders are leaking and preventing actuation, you should see some fluid leaking somewhere and the switch should blink indicating an error in the system. If the pump fails to run at all, I'd check the fuses to the system. Do the rear headrests/ROPS operate normally?

There is a strap fuse under hood passenger side that may be slightly cracked and not making contact.

I topped off the hydraulic fluid but the top still will not come down. Now the windows don't come down either. When I pull back on the switch it starts to blink. I don't think the pump comes on at all. At least I can't hear it. If I pull back on the switch a few times, the windows finally start to come down but not the top. I'll check the fuzes, but I think I might also have a bad switch.

Please pay attention to what Peter said. I had the same problem as you and it was the strap fuse. Do a search here on the forum for "strap fuse" and you will see a thread with pics. It's a $5 fix. Good luck.

I found the problem and it was exactly what you and Peter suggested. I pried the cover off and the fuse looked great but when I prodded it with my finger I could see it was cracked completely through. Never heard the term "strap fuse" before. I think GM used to call it a "fusible link". Anyway, thanks for all the help. I'm glad I found this forum.
Cheers, Elliot

Can you tell me where exactly is the fuse in question? Did it resolve the problem? I was told that the strap fuse is for the rear window defogger.. Help needed for us all.
