1996 C220 rearview mirror buzzing

I'm experiencing an annoying problem. There is a slight buzzing/humming noise coming from my rearview mirror. And... the mirror is not stable.

Any thoughts?

(In case you remember my post about having my headliner replaced, this was happening before that event, so I don't think they are related.)

Update on this.... My son went to adjust the rearview mirror and it FELL APART! But not off the windshield. So now I have a replacement mirror and I could really use some intructions on removing the old mirror (what's left of it) and installing the new mirror. The post is still very well attached to the windshield.

1996mbz c220, annoying noise

I have a mild to high pitch fan-like blade sound coming from the rear view mirror area. The sound is coming from the right side of one of two slotted looking small vents. Is this a air intake motor fan blade I am hearing? If this a fan motor noise, How do I replace this part? Please help me with this annoying noise with any suggestions. Thanks

Probably the sampler blower motor

That sound is probably the sampler blower motor, which sucks air across a tiny probe to measure the cabin air temperature for the needlessly complicated climate control system. On my car (a 1996 W210), it's p/n 140 830 00 08, a black plastic box the size of an ice cube. Probably the same on yours. You can remove it from the overhead light assembly after removing the entire assembly from the roof. Don't force anything; look for all the plastic tabs and carefully pry them apart. If you're lucky, the little motor will quiet down with a cleaning (use a can of compressed air) and a tiny bit of lubrication. If not, a new one is around $85.
