Hood pad...whats wrong?

Recently I purchesed (from Phil here) a new hood pad for my W107. The old one was removed 2 years ago, and all traces of the leftover pieces.

Cleaned with lacquer thinner and used a 3M #77 spray adhesive. Worked fine for about a week. Then it came loose.

Got a feeling the glue is the wrong type. What brand/type is recommended? Think I can use the pad over?

Cliff

Use 3M 08090 Super Trim Adhesive. You'll need 2 cans.

The 3M Super 77 isn't the appropriate adhesive for the hood pad.

I bought 2 cans this size and used 1/2 of the second can.

Make sure you get enough if the cans at Wal-Mart are smaller.

Even with the "good" 3M adhesive, it's absolutely critical to follow the instructions with contact cement, like: temperature, spray BOTH surfaces at the right distance AFTER shaking the can thoroughly, and WAIT the recommended time both to apply and to drive, the former being extremely important.

I hope you've been masking/covering the heck out of everything. This is VERY MESSY and very risky to remove from paint.

P.S. Are you going to do the "rear" hood seal also? I must be one of the only people who do this one!

I did the above with a slight modification. After cleaning, I fitted and held my pad in place using several magnets (actually magnets parts pans). When I was happy with the fit, I did half of the pad at a time. Pad stayed exactly where I had test fitted.

Oh yeah...covered most everything with blankets, drop-cloths, etc.

Was told the rear part of the hood is no longer available. Would like to do but don't want to buy a whole second pad to do so. Ideas??

What does this mean? Does the hood actually require 2 pieces of pad to cover it? Is this something unique to the 107? My 124 has a single pad to cover the entire hood surface, and only one part number in the epc.
