1995 w140 passenger side cabin air filter?
Hi,
How do you get to the cabin air filter inside the car under the glove box on passenger side? I've searched this forum and I found instructions for a different model which stated there were four screws on the --not sure what you call it.. trim? --, but I couldn't find any. There's this plastic thing with vents, and two bolts, I removed the bolts but nothing budges. Car is a 1995 s320 (long wheel base). Thank you! |

I have a '97 which should be pretty close....
There are no screws to remove. There are two little plastic latches up inside of the front (closest to the passenger) side of the filter's frame. You should see a square hole to the right and left of center. You have to stick a screwdriver in there and push the latches sideways to disengage them. Then you have to pull down on the front slightly and wiggle/twist the frame around to get it out. Pay close attention to the frame's orientation and especially the way it goes over/under the various bits of carpet and side panels. It will make re-installation much easier. Bob.

Hello and thank you so much for the reply!
I see several holes on mine, and I tried each of them without success. The big "square holes" just behind the bolts there lead nowhere. I was able to get a very flat screwdriver into the slits just behind the holes (including the one in the middle) and jiggled around, but found no latches. I went in about 4 inches. Here's a picture.. am I missing something? ![]() |

Got it!!
Success!
Inside those two large holes behind the two bolts are two plastic screws. You turn them 90 degrees, and that whole black part there snaps out. It was a bit tough getting it all back in, required a bit of force. I think the screws were replaced by latches at some point. The original filter in the car was about 3 times as thick as my new one? *shrug* Also doesn't look like it's been changed since.. ever! |
