Special tools for a head gasket job?

I posted the question in my other thread a number of times, but nobody replied due to the fact its on page 2 etc...

So I need to replace my head gasket which I am doing next week.

Do I need any special tools to get the head off? I have a garage full of sockets etc, but anything special for the M103 engine?

Much appreciated.
Robert,

Robert,
To remove the head bolts (see photo below), you will need a 12mm Serrated Wrench, it's a 12 point (triple square) that you can use with a 1/2 '' socket. This worked out great with my 1/2'' drive breaker bar and a 1/2'' 6 point impact wrench socket.
Just for the record, I purchased this part at NAPA, part #SER2306 for $7.09 + tax.
For the timing chain rail pins, I used a leftover belt tensioner adjustment rod, along with a nut, washers, and a socket for a spacer to pull them out. The threaded end of the bolt screws into the rail pin, then with the socket and washers, I was able to tighten the nut and the rail pins came out.

I replaced my head gasket Aug. of 2007.
Mine is a '93 4 cyl., but here is my experience.

*NOTE* If the engine mounts are still on your to do list, this would be the time to replace them with the head and intake off, and also check your transmission mount, mine was broken.

Good luck,

Dave

Leave manifolds bolted to the head. Remove as big of pieces as you can (alt, brackets, ect) Be careful with your wiring harness. Mark, mark, mark everything and anything!! I get plastic lunch baggies and a roll of masking tape to segregate each area of bolts and fasteners. Mark ALL plugs and write down where they go. I also marked ALL vacuum lines ect. The EXTRA time you take on disassembly makes a world of difference on reassembly. I did our '94 2 years ago. ALOT of stuff comes off
