c230 SmartKey won't start car or open doors when it's cold?

My issues just started as the temps here have lowered in the last 2 weeks.
If i go out early in the am and try to open the doors the smart key will NOT open the doors and will NOT turn to 2nd position to start the car! But..........if i wait till about 10 am when it warms up to about 65 degress all works fine. This happens with both of my Smart Keys! Radio, lights etc all work all the time.... I am truly stumped. I am convinced it has something to do with the cold. The only other piece of information i have is that when all of this started to happen my windshiel wipers now default to a position at about 30 degrees. i pushed them down and when you start the car or shift from park to drive the move back to the 30 degree position. Could these things be related?
If anyone has ideas..... please please e-mail me.

Have you replaced the batterys in the key(s)??

Have you had the main battery in the car tested?
