88 124 Tranny Shift Pattern Adjustment?
I just got my 88’ 300TE back from a friend who installed a transmission for me that I bought here in the forum and it’s nice to have it back on the road after sitting two years. Driving it home I noticed it gets up to some pretty high revs before shifting into 4th and I’d like to know if there is some way to adjust the tranny on what RPMs it shifts at?
If memory serves me correctly, I believe I was getting up to over 3K before it shifted and only then if I left off on the gas some. It also seems to shift harder than what I’m used to in my 95 E320 wagon. Is this because I replaced the vacuum modulator, neutral safety switch, flex discs, drive shaft bearing, filter, seals and gaskets with new parts? |

Adjustment of the control pressure cable should change the "timing" of ALL of the shifts.

I just looked at the book I bought written by Kent Bergsma on removal and replacement of the transmission and he refers to the bowden cable. Is this what you are referring to and if so is there an adjustment under the hood on the tension, or at the transmission where I can adjust it, or are you referring to something totally different? Jerry |

I'm starting to think there's a bigger vacuum problem than just the transmission. This car always ran great and it feels like one of the cylinders isn't firing, plus the door locks aren't working properly now.
Thinking about a vacuum issue with the transmission, all these other symptoms could be the result of a vacuum leak as well. Any thoughts on where I begin to source the leak problem if there is one? |
