Don't want to put her down.

I need assistance with my 300D '85 Mercedes. I lost my head lights. No they weren't stolen. They will not come ON! right now I removed my signal lamps and plugged them into my head lamps so I have lights. I just took a volt meter to the switch and plug to the lamp assemblies and I have 12 volts. so I conclude I am not able to establish current. WHY? what can I do? I don't want to turn this car into a parts car. engine and all are still way too good of condition. Please help and thanks for the advice.

Have you checked fuses? Where are you located? Post in the diesel section.
