Is this normal? SLK-350
I own an 2006 SLK-350. The other day while driving approx 15 mph a deer jumped in front of my car. I panic stopped and somehow missed him by inches. Here the strange part. When I attempted to drive away, the car responded like it was in nueteral. I looked at the shifter to see if I may have inadvertently hit it but the indicator has pointing to "D". I shift into park then back in gear nothing but the tach moved. I then placed it back into park and turned the car off. I waited a few seconds and restarted. Put car into drive and it's been normal ever since. I was wondering if this was some sort of safety feature and if it was how can it be defeated during say auto-Xing? I havent attemped another panic stopped just in case it is a malfuction. Thanks for reading post. Ed.

It doesn't sound normal. Maybe you scared the car more than the deer.
