Is the 722.5 electronic?

Is the 722.5 fully mechanical like the 722.3 and .4 or is it electronic like the 722.6?

Can I assume a 722.5 won't go into a 124 without reshaping the tunnel?

Thanks,
Sixto

It's mechanical like a 722.3, but with some electronic diagnostics, something like 8 fault codes. It was commonly installed in 124 coupes in other markets, perhaps in sedans, not sure.

Only the overdrive is electronic. In fact with out the electronics it will skip past fourth into fifth. It was fitted in w124s in most other markets than us. It could be easily adapted without the electronics by just adding a switch for 12vlts for manual control. The driveshaft will have to be replaced.
Also I have been working on and have a conversion for the 722.6 5 speed. That is working quite well. I am a little ways away from it being 100%. But these transmissions are readily avail. in salvage yards and do not require the driveshaft to be replaced. Which is big money. See the post that I have. on this in the performance section or pm me with contact information for more details.

i just replaced one in a 140 S320, same 104 in there that is in the 124 chassis so it should fit, the main difference is the 5th gear control system. the connector on the trans at right rear is different than the 722.4, also there is a controller unit for the 722.5 and a switch internally in the gear shift selector that allows the unit to switch from 4th 5th, what specifically are you trying to do?

I'd like to hang a 5-speed AT behind a 603 but I won't do it if there is heavy electronics work involved. Ideally I'd use a 722.6 but I understand those have a lot of electronics.

Shifting from 3 to 5 isn't that big of an issue if it's not too far a drop. 5 speeds is nice but overdrive is key.

This assumes there is enough similarity between a 603 and 104 that a 722.5 will even bolt up.

OD I think is only around 0.81:1... 4th at 1:1... and 3rd about 1.41:1. In those areas.
